Famous for his dramatic and comedic performances, he is considered to be one of the most loved and well-known film stars in the world and is considered an American famous cultural icon. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was the father of Janet Marylyn, a hospital employee, as well as Amos Mefford Hanks (an itinerant chef). His mother was named "Fraga" while his father was predominantly English. Tom grew up in what he calls a "fractured" family. He did not have any experience in acting in college, and credits his inability to get a role in a college production as the reason for his beginning career. He auditioned in the city for a production in the community theater. The director invited him to Cleveland and that's how his acting career began.
