Despacito is a song from 2017 released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the most streamed and downloaded song across the globe within six months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music not only brought an interest to the genre, but as well to Latin music generally. In 2015, there were two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. In the midst of the Despacito's popularity in 2017 there were 19 mainly Spanish tracks which made it into the Top 100. In 2020, there were 41. In the wake of Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017 the most well-known artists began to join forces with reggaeton performers. Drake and Bad Bunny worked together on MIA (2018) as did Madonna and Maluma. Madonna joined forces with Maluma on Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. As early as 2020, some reggaeton musicians felt dissatisfied with the direction the genre was heading toward popular. Rauw Alajandro is a member of a brand new generation looking to alter the course. It was often associated with electronic dance, as well as other types.
